Heritage Mahjong Tile Matches
The infamous Heritage OMM tiles are loved for good reason - he's super handsome and works with SO many mats! These tiles have a uniform burl wood back, gorgeous faces in earth tones such as rust and burgundy, olive, hunter and sage greens and cobalt and navy blues along with pops of butterscotch. The layers are white, sage green and olive green and add to the overall earthiness of this set.
This set is definitely a great neutral option and a more masculine set for man-jong, but it also provides a great juxtaposition to more feminine and pastel mats. As I said, it's hard to find a mat Heritage doesn't work with BUT I don't want to match it to every mat imaginable or this gallery would be never-ending, lol. So for MY purposes I'm matching Heritage to what I see as it's best matches based on mats that have some coordination in color or style to the tiles. Heritage (the original Heritage 1.0) is retired, so Oh My Mahjong no longer sells it, but lots of players still own it and look for mats to go with it. Heritage + Darjeeling
Mat by Oh My MahjongIf you don't know about the versatility of Darjeeling, it's easily one of OMM's most versatile mats because of it's complexity of design/pattern & colors. Heritage shines here as another layer of neutral pattern on this busy mat. The brown & honey tones of Heritage pick up the pagodas and trees of the middle mat and the layers of olive and sage do the same. It's just SO good!

Heritage + Cognac
Mat by Oh My MahjongThis is a classic, simple setup that works really well. Note that there isn't a lot of tonal differentiation between Heritage and the cognac mat, but you do get a play on the textures of the burl wood against the texture of the vegan leather. Breaking this up with wood racks introduces yet another natural texture and is beautiful.
With wood racks, you can generally pick any tone/stain but here I would go for something in the oak family to get some contrast since the tiles and mat are close in color. Earthy, beautiful & simple. Works great if you want to keep a set out in a home decorated with a muted earthy palette or a speakeasy basement vibe - and men tend to really like this setup too!
Heritage + Dapper 2
Mat by Oh My MahjongThe other version of Dapper is the current version, and as you can see the chocolate brown has printed to more of a deep merlot. The green is a bit more sage than hunter as well. This is the CURRENT dapper mat sold on OMM website.
And YES it still works because it's all still muted and masculine but MAN I wish they would bring back Dapper 1 because I think it was a much better match. You can score Dapper 1 by asking around if anyone is selling their "original Dapper" mat on FB, that's how I scored mine. But if you can't find it I still think Dapper 2 is a great mat and works well with Heritage.
Heritage + Liberty
Mat by Oh My MahjongThis mat doesn't get a lot of love because it has a very primary color red and not much pink to blend it to many OMM tiles aside from Nantucket. But Heritage works beautifully here with lots of blues and orangey-reds in its faces. The green layers pull in the leaves and the burl wood back pulls the honey tone of the bamboo border. Overall the Liberty mat feels classic and Americana and Heritage is a very sophisticated and classic tile so the vibes work well together.
Heritage + Astor
Mat by Oh My MahjongThe deep blues of Astor provide a beautiful backdrop for Heritage's orange/honey tones to really pop. And there are plenty of tonal oranges in the mat (peaches and creams with orange undertones) that blend it's colors into the mat. There are no greens in Astor but there are rust tones that find coordination in the faces.
I love this mat because of the way it's patterns blend the masculine (plaid border) and feminine (floral and botanical center) in a deep moody, jewel tone colorway. It's not hard to see why Heritage works here then with a masculine tie to the plaid and juxtaposition against the floral center.
Oak racks pick up on the butterscotch border and add another natural element to the Heritage burl or add tortoise for another beautiful layer of pattern.
Heritage + Vanderbilt
Mat by Oh My MahjongVanderbilt has a great earthy/muted color palette that works great with Heritage and just feels fall/winter to me. The buffalo check/plaid feels masculine and moody and works great with the vibe of Heritage. The honey orange tones of Heritage's burl wood against the deep navy and slate blues of Vanderbilt is a great complimentary pop. Love it with more pattern by layering tortoise or pulling in the butterscotch border with oak racks.
Heritage + Luna
Mat by Oh My MahjongLove this combo, my favorite is with wood racks (of any tone really.) It's such a sophisticated and elegant setup that is neutral while still having some color with blue and green earth tones. And here Heritage again gives blue a complimentary pop of contrast with its honey/orange toned backs.

It's Heritage's "pair" and it's gorgeous. Yes it's masculine but it's also just very neutral. I have this setup and it can sit out in my neutral home in the fall, thru the holidays and all winter long and looks beautiful. I've heard some people call this the Ralph Lauren of mahj setups and I think that feels accurate!

Mat by Oh My MahjongRetiredThe bottom layer of Heritage is a sage green that is almost a dead ringer for the dominant sage green in this mat's perimeter. This mat is more muted than people realize when you really look at the tones of it but still has some brighter elements and a pastel pink center so Heritage and it's masculinity/earthy texture both blends and gives a great juxtaposition on this mat. People really respond to the complexity of this combo, especially with tortoise racks.

Mat by Oh My MahjongRetiredI feel like people either love or hate this mat. It has a bold art deco vibe that I personally love and think it couldn't be any more perfect than with Heritage. The true tone of Heritage is muted orange/brown so (just like Sierra,) you'll get maximum pop when you put orange on blue (it's complement, directly across on the color wheel) and I LOVE how simple the middle of the Soho mat is. But it's the layers and faces of Heritage that make it truly look made for this mat - pulling in Soho's greens, blues and rust orange accents PERFECTLY. I'm sad OMM is discontinuing this mat!

Heritage + Camellia
Mat by Oh My MahjongRetiredI think this is my favorite tile on Camellia. Kind of similar to what Heritage does on Citrus Songbird, it offers a great juxtaposition against Camellia's dainty, pretty, tea party vibe. And as I said before, you can put Heritage on anything and it will probably "work" but if there is a bridge of color between the tile (back, faces or layers) & mat then those are the best "matches" IMO. Here on Camellia the bridge between the two is the deep hunter green of the leaves that pick up Heritage's middle layer and it's just stunning! Tortoise racks for the win to add complexity with layered patterns.

Heritage + Capri
Mat by Oh My MahjongRetiredEveryone loves the monkeys of Capri and Heritage picks up on them beautifully with its backs, but it's the greens of Capri and Heritage's layers that make it such a great match. Capri and Citrus Songbird have similar palettes and it works here for the same reasons previously mentioned.

Heritage works here for the same reasons previously mentioned with the other pastel mats with juxtaposition but also some relation thru the greens and oranges.

Mat by Tigre de TartanRetiredWhew, there are a lot of non-OMM mats for Heritage! I'm sure I'll just keep adding to this one, Heritage goes with SO many mats and I know I've only scratched the surface here.
Holy Mahj by Tigre de Tartan is definitely a favorite with this tiles set, especially with the walls built! Heritage goes particularly well with muted florals so I've pulled several of my favorites. Florals with soft blues and muted greens are great with Heritage faces but you can also pull in muted reds/rusts and butterscotch tones.
