Sierra Mahjong Tile Matches
Sierra has a color palette that is inspired by the desert landscape of Sierra Nevada - burnt orange backs with layers of white, the palest of blues & a rather bright olive green. But her real magic is in her FACES - the gold accents of the cracks, dragons & flowers are BEAUTIFUL in person and hard to capture in a photo. IYKYK with this one!! She is a sleeper and usually in stock but growing in popularity as more and more people see these tiles in person.
To me, these have a vintage vibe, especially in the dragons and flowers. If there's a better solid backed fall/autumn tile I haven't found it yet. Note that filters and flashes can make these tiles look more orange than they actually are. They are definitely orange, but a burnt orange so there's brown added that tones it down a bit (unlike OMM Sunset, who has zero chill:) If you like an earthy vibe, this is a great tile to add some non-bright earthy color. I'll be adding more pairings with brands like Sunday Mahjong, Ozark & more to show you more of her vibe. Everything earthy also works for more masculine tablescapes, the key is to tone down the brightness which this tile does well. Nothing but love for Sierra!

Sierra + Darjeeling
Mat by Oh My MahjongThis combo is a favorite among Sierra fans for good reason. There is simply a complexity of color in the Darjeeling mat that makes a lot of tile combinations work and this combo of burnt orange against the bright & light blue dominant colors gives a great pop (orange is the compliment of blue & therefore will give the maximum color pop.)
Sierra has an olive green layer that perfectly picks up the inner mat's greenery and there are even pops of burnt orange and other analagous colors (red, yellow) in the mat center. It just works y'all! My favorite racks for Sierra will always be tortoise, just so good, but Agate is a fun twist here as well.

Mat by Oh My MahjongI like this match up for a fall tablescape, and once again, using the tortoise racks will help to bridge Sierra to this mat in a really pretty way. Orange is the complement of blue (opposite on the color wheel) and is therefore the color that will give the most pop. Sierra's orange is a burnt orange which makes it work with other muted and earthy colors like the butterscotch tone and deep plums and navy blues of Vanderbilt.

Mat by Oh My MahjongRetiredIf you learn the basics of the color wheel you'll know some combos will always work and more easily be able to understand why certain combos work. A good tip is to really pay attention to the dominant color of the center of the mat - where your tiles will be as you play - in this case navy blue. If you want to maximize your "pop" on the mat, pick the dominant color's complement on the color wheel, the color that sits opposite of it. For blue, it's orange.
The next step is to match up what I call the clean/dirty factor. Some colors are fresh & clean, bright & airy - think pastels, brights, etc.... And other colors are dirtier, muddier, moodier and more muted. While it's not a hard and fast "rule", generally speaking matching up the same general tones of clean with clean and dirty with dirty will often work better. If you try to put OMM Sunset on this mat, you will quickly see the difference of a clean/bright orange and see that it makes Soho look dirty or Sunset look neon. Same for if you try to put Sierra onto the OMM Goldie mat - Sierra just looks dingy and off.
This combo of Soho & Sierra is a great match for a pop of color in a colorful yet muted palette that's great for an Art Deco/Speakeasy vibe if that's your thing!

The tortoise racks with Sierra as always is SO good and the pattern of tortoise with the busy Mirage mat has a very 70’s vibe IMO and is a fun/funky combo!
